MoU between the SSGMC and EPIC/ECFMG for credential verification

Juba, South Sudan, In a decisive move to safeguard public health and restore trust in the nation's medical workforce, the South Sudan General Medical Council (SSGMC) has entered into a strategic partnership with EPIC/ECFMG for the independent verification of practitioners' credentials. At the heart of this initiative lies a singular motive: to ensure that every medical doctor practicing in South Sudan is genuinely qualified to save lives. By mandating primary-source verification through EPIC "an internationally recognized credentialing service " the SSGMC aims to eliminate loopholes that have previously allowed unqualified individuals to infiltrate the health sector. "We owe it to every South Sudanese citizen to know without doubt that the person treating them has earned their qualification through legitimate training," the Council stated. "This agreement is not merely administrative, it is a moral commitment to patient safety, professional integrity, and the dignity of our healthcare system". For the Council, this is more than a procedural update — it is a declaration that quality, transparency, and accountability will define the future of medical practice in South Sudan. All Medical Doctors/Specialists "who studied abroad" seeking new registration or renewal are encouraged to initiate the verification process through EPIC without delay. Detailed guidance is available on the EPIC website (https://www.ecfmg.org/psv/) or via email at info@ssgmc.gov.ss.
